Looking forward to 2008...

Hey…Rock 'n' Roll Geezers…

And as sunny 'ole England continues to bake, lawns are turning yellow everywhere and some of the most gorgeous babes on the planet are wandering about semi-naked and well tanned up, I spent most of last Thursday afternoon at my desk vibed into www.totalrock.com
A splendid radio station…
And what a treat it was with regular DJ Chris Dale’s 3-6 pm slot as the one and only Robin Guy, who’s energetic and mind blowing drumming skills puts him in the top set of skin-beaters joined the crazy bass man for a natter and tales of life on the road.
Rob’s just got back from touring the U.S.A and some mighty some fine stories were told. Check out both these dudes’ sites on the links page.
Chris can be found under 'sacktrick' and Rob can also be found at…..www.robinguy/myspace

Total rock and roll dudes...

Well, me Charvel guitar’s been to the doctors again this month, I’ve been using some new light gauge strings and there about as flimsy as the aforementioned babes thong elastic, broke three stings on the first mighty swang….So I'm gonna chuck some heavier ones on, kinda like the ‘Bridget Jones’ big pant experience for guitarists’ and see what happens…

Me Charvel gets some proper TLC...

And talking of guitars and getting off on the subject of women’s underwear, (don’t worry, only temporary,) got cool e-mails from two of my early influences in music.

John McLaughlin and John Etheridge are both world class players, in fields ranging from rock, jazz, fusion, Indian and world music. Their names may not be familiar to bored house-wives in Camden, but their unique talents and style has them an army of fans world wide.

John McLaughlin, go for it …

You can't see them in this photo but behind him is a Marsh all stack or two…wicked!

John Etheridge, go for it...

I saw John McLaughlin at the Queen Elizabeth Halls in London a few years back, his acoustic guitar playing was so fluent and mesmerizing it brought gasps from the entire audience.

And we used to sneak into a venue coz we was only 15, in Thornton heath, (Sorry, tauntan eeeth) and watch Mr. Etheridge take jazz/fusion guitar to another level. I actually spoke to him outside the Wimpy grill in Croydon and being a cocky teenager I said something totally dumb like 'hey man, wicked playin'
He just smiled and said 'Be cool dude'.

I ran home and practiced non-stop for about 6 hours.

This is probably a 'guitarist’s only' thing but check out: www.johnmclaughin.com and www.johnetheridge.com

I studied jazz guitar for five years but on forming my own rock band and doing our first gig at the Winchester club in Tunbridge Wells, where hoards of half-naked and sweaty girls were jumping around and we stayed at the bar until 4.00am, it seemed that was the only sensible route to take. So Jazz went out the window!

A new breed of guitarist. Tom Morello

And along came Tom Morello.
And on hearing him screech, bash, rip and almost smash his guitar to pieces, with a blinding technique, rage, volume and almost a deranged sense of humor things were never to be the same again.

Every rock and roll fan in the world knows the guitar solo in Rage against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the name of’ and one girlfriend, who I fell in love with the instant she said 'can you play that song where the guitar goes 'weeru weeru weeru weeru weeru weeru werrrra' really loud and at the end it sounds like the singers throat is about to explode.'

I just casually said 'Well, fuck you? …I’ll do anything you tell me.'

And, back to the old crudity again I hear you mutter, I think that’s all part of it.
Not into the drugs: Unless you relish paranoia, being fucked up and death.

But Sex an booze an rock and roll….wonderful stuff.

Healthy mind, healthy body...

C'ya next month, when we will all be complaining about the bleeden weather as usual.

And a mate of mine from Newcastle, UK, told me his best chat up line this summer was ‘How pet, shall we talk aboot da weathaa,

'Ayy…'

‘Weathaa a not yuz gonna zuk us off the neet then…'

Coming soon …
