They decided not to rehearse that night, being as they had managed to freak each other out so much. A beer or two was called for. As Nutty walked up the stairs, Howey had a large songbook in his hand which, just before they got to the safety of the upstairs, he dropped with a loud crash. Nutty ran up the last five stairs as the other two fell about laughing.
'You bastards,' he said as his trembling hand clutched a pint of Guinness, spilling the first mouthful all over himself. One of the girls came over and wiped the bar.
'Wass up with you then? Just seen a ghost or something?'
A thin smile came over his face and his eyes wandered, looking in the direction of the cellar.
